Silver Makers Marks App Update.

I have now added 3 additional date letter pages to the App for the London, Sheffield and Edinburgh Assay Offices. In time I shall add more Regional Assay Office date letters. There have been over 1300 downloads of the App so far, so a big thank you from me to anyone reading this who has the App. If you like the App please leave favourable comments at Google Play and the Itunes store feedback sections to encourage others to download.
In previous posts I have mentioned the purchase of an unusual silver teddy bear. I include a picture of him here. He was designed by Country Artists and produced in silver by Mappin & Webb. He stands around 7 inches tall and is filled but weighs in at over 5 pounds. He is really tactile. So tactile I am afraid he has already found a loving home here with us. Karen cannot “Bear” to part with him so Mr. Ted is staying with us from now on I am afraid.

Silver Makers Marks App Update. We have now passed the 1000 download marker and I welcome all those who have subscribed to this email Newsletter from my App. I hope you like it as it is still work in progress. I have changed the style of the links to this website from just the one global link to 4 separate links to each of our category pages for dining room silver, bedroom silver, nursery silver and library / study silver. The reason for this is to keep as much navigation in the app itself as possible and only move from the app to this web site when you really have to.

I have also added more makers marks and have many more images ready to upload. As well as this I hope to add to the date letters in the near future. If only there were more hours in the day!!

Now this weeks special offer for a vinaigrette directed my choice of humour this week. These little silver boxes contained a sponge soaked in vinegar and were used to revive fainting females or to ward off the smell of the open sewers of the times.

Silver Makers Mark App Update: Good news on the App front, we have had over 800 downloads on both Android and Apple so far! This App gives you access to the hundreds of silver makers marks I have catalogued on my Silver Makers Marks website direct onto your mobile phone. This means if you are at an auction, antiques fair, antiques shop or even that car boot sale you will have access to my database of images to try and identify the maker of that silver item!

The app also contains links from the individual makers marks page direct into ebay to see what currently is on offer on ebay for that maker in order to help you gauge the price and value of your own items.

Well the results of the Britain’s Best Antiques Shops Awards were announced on the 8th March 2012 at the Bath Decorative & Antiques Fair by Kirstie and Phil.

For those of you who voted the results were as follows:

The winners were:

• Best antiques shop: Blighty Antiques, Cheltenham

• Best specialist shop: Christopher Clarke Antiques, Stow on the Wold

• Best vintage/midcentury shop: Nanadobbie, Brighton

• Best auction house: McTear’s Auctioneers, Glasgow

• Best antiques centre: Hungerford Arcade, Hungerford

An old woman was arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store. When she appeared before the judge, the judge asked what she had taken. The lady replied, “A can of peaches.” The judge then asked why she had done it. She replied, “I was hungry and forgot to bring any cash to the store.” The judge asked how many peaches were in the can. The judge said, “Yes, what do you have to add?” The husband said, “Your honor, she also stole a can of peas.”
