Tortoiseshell Lid Jewellery Box Silver Body. It is of a circular shape and stands on 3 slim legs which have an embossed pattern running down the whole length of them. It does have a raised line pattern running around the base of the lid and the top rim of the base. The beautiful inset tortoiseshell lid also has a very pretty silver overlay of a flower garland and drapery and also includes two bows. It has a burgundy velvet lining to the shallow interior. It does have hallmarks, but they are a little rubbed but can still be read, apart from the makers marks which are completely rubbed. The material covering the underside of the base does have “Alexander Clark Co Ltd London” in gold coloured lettering, and this could be the silver makers, as you can just make out that the silver makers marks are in an oval with a lined border, which is the shape of Alexander Clark Co

Makers Marks: The lettering is completely rubbed, but you can just about make out the oval shape with a lined border, which could confirm that the makers are Alexander Clark Co, which would match the mark on the underside of the material base
Dimensions: Just under 3 inches in diameter and 1.75 inches tall (but please note that the actual compartment for storing your trinkets or jewellery is very shallow and is only about 0.25 inch deep). It weighs 44g but this includes the tortoiseshell in the lid and the interior
Condition: It does have a few very minor little dings, mainly in the raised lined pattern around the top and base rims, but these are minor and commensurate with age and use
Remarks: This really is a very pretty solid silver and tortoiseshell lidded box, that would look impressive in any room, and ideal for storing little trinkets, small items of jewellery, hair accessories etc. It does make a lovely display item for everyone to see
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
