Coffee Pot Silver Hallmarks London 1911
This is a lovely and very elegant Antique Georgian Style Solid Silver Coffee Pot. I can best describe it as being a sort of elongated pear shape with a narrow top and then tapering out to a rounded base. The body is heavily embossed with a foliate and scroll pattern. To the front (with the handle on the right) this pattern covers most of this side. With the handle facing to the left there is a large shaped cartouche which has a small horse like engraving which is holding a flower in its mouth. It has a lined pattern to the raised circular base. The hinged circular lid, has a pretty pattern underneath the decorative finial – a bit like a flower head. It has a swan like shaped spout which has an embossed shell pattern to the base and then an embossed leaf cap pattern to the top of the spout. It has a part wooden question mark shaped handle. It is made from a good guage of silver and has clear hallmarks on the body and the lid
Assay Office: LONDON
Date: 1911/12
Makers Marks: D & J W (D & J Wellby Ltd)
Dimensions: 8.75 inches tall to the top of the finial and 7.25 inches wide from handle to spout. The top diameter is 2.25 inches and then it widens out to 3.75 inches in diameter. The actual circular raised base is 2.75 inches in diameter. It weighs 595g (including the wooden handle)
Condition: It is in very good condition, but if I had to be extremely critical, there is a little play in the lid, but this is very very minor. It is very clean inside
Remarks: This is a lovely antique solid silver coffee pot, very decortive and elegant that would look impressive in any home. When not in use, it would make a lovely display item to show it off in all its glory
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
