Antique Silver Victorian Milk Jug Large & Heavy. It has a flared body, wide at the top and narrowing to the base with a wide fluted rim. I can best describe the pattern as being like a shell of a tortoise or turtle and the large loop oval handle having a bamboo shape to it. It is made from a good guage of silver and therefore of a good sturdy weight and it has clear hallmarks for LONDON 1880/81 with Silver Makers Marks: SW (Possibly Samuel Whitford II)
It measures 6 inches long from lip to handle, the actual top opening 5 inches long and just over 3.5 inches wide, the oval base 2 inches wide and 2.5 inches long and it measures 4.5 inches tall. It weighs 279g. It is in very good condition having just a couple of tiny pin prick dings to the base, but these are very very minor.
This really is a very impressive large and heavy antique solid silver Victorian 130 year old milk jug, although it could also be used for custard, gravy, sauces etc, and when not in use would make a stylish display item.
