Antique Silver Spoons Five Piece Serving Set. It comprises of 4 tablespoon size spoons and 1 good size sifter spoon. Each item is highly embossed and chased with a leaf and scroll pattern and do look like berry spoons except without any berries!. All this decoration is to the front of the spoons and although the backs of the bowls are patterned the backs of the handles are plain. Each also has an oval cartouche which are all still blank. This lovely set comes complete in its deep red lined fitted box. Each spoon is made from a good guage of silver and each have clear hallmarks except for the makers marks on the sifter spoon. You will see below that they do have different dates and makers marks, but this is not unusual but I can confirm that all the patterns are identical on each spoon. The inside of the lid of the box is stamped “Z Barraclough & Sons Watchmakers and Jewellers 54 Briccate.Leeds”
Assay Office: 3 of the spoons and the sifter spoon have the London Assay Office mark and one spoon has the Exeter Assay Office mark
Date: The London spoons are dated 1827, 1828, 1842 and the sifter spoon is 1810. The Exeter spoon is dated for 1846
Makers Marks: SHDC ( Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater) J.H (Jonathan Hayne) WC (William Chawner II) the Exeter spoon J.S (John Stone) and the Sifter spoon SW (I think although a bi rubbed) which could be Samuel Whitford
Dimensions: The spoons 9 inches long in total with the bowls being 2.75 inches long and 1.75 inches wide at their widest point. The sifter spoon is 6.5 inches long in total, the bowl approximately 1.75 inches in diamter. The whole set weighs a total of 311g
Condition: Each item is in very good condtition and so too is the box particularly the inside which is immaculate, the outside covering is a little worn in places but overall in very good condition and the clasp works fine.
Remarks: This really is a super antique solid silver cased set of Georgian and Victorian serving spoons and sifter spoon beautifully presented.
