Heavy American Antique Sterling Silver Tazza / Comport. It has a very pretty applied pierced and embossed rim and the same pattern around the pedestal base. It has a slight circular recess in the centre forming the rounded bottom of the shallow dish. It is made from a good guage and is of a very good weight and has clear hallmarks
Identifying Marks: It is stamped “Sterling” and the makers marks of a G a turtle/tortoise and then J (Goodnow & Jenks) and dating it between 1893 – 1905
Dimensions: The top diameter is 7.5 inches, the base is just under 5 inches in diameter and it is 4.75 inches tall. It weighs an impressive 473g
Condition: It is in very good condition with just one very minor shallow ding just under the top rim, but this is very very minor
Remarks: This really is a good and heavy antique American solid silver pedestal comport that would look impressive in the centre of any table or sideboard, filled with fruit, chocolates, sweets etc or it would make a super serving dish, that would certainly wow your guests at a dinner party
Oversesas Purchasers please note: Due to the value of this item, I am having to limit this to UK purchasers only
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
