Silver Comport Hallmarks Birmingham 1936
This is a very pretty Solid Silver Low Comport. It is circular with a shaped and applied border which I can best describe as a bit like a flower head with flat petals. It has a short circular pedestal base and is made from a good guage of silver and is of a very good weight. It is also stamped with the Mappin & Webb details on the base.
Assay Office: BIRMINGHAM
Date: 1936
Makers Marks: MN & WB (Mappin & Webb Ltd)
Dimensions: 9 inches in diameter, 4.25 inches diameter of the base and 2 inches tall. It weighs 335g
Condition: Overall it is in very good condition with just on very very small ding to the base and some very light surface scratching which is only to be expected on a useable metal item, but this is very minor
Remarks: A very good low solid silver comport that would make an ideal serving dish for perhaps cakes and biscuits, chocolates, slices fruit etc and when not in use a very impressive display item. It will also be of particular interest to collectors of Mappin & Webb solid silver items
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
