This is a beautiful Continental 800 Standard Silver Lidded Bowl. It is very pretty and is of a circular shape with 6 panels, 3 embossed fully with a pattern of scrolls and leaves and the other three with a central embossed pattern of flowers. The pull off lid mirrors the pattern of the base, and the handle is formed by cast flowers which are very decorative. It has 3 large shell capped paw feet. It has a gilt interior
Identifying Marks: The only marks I can find are “800″ and then a snake/lizard (I think) shape, so I am afraid that I cannot confirm its age or origin
Dimensions: 4.5 inches tall to the top of the tallest flower on the lid, the top opening is 3.25 inches in diameter and the actual body is 4 inches in diameter at its widest point. It weighs 270g
Condition: It is in very good condition, apart from the rim of the top opening is a little mis-shapen, although very minor, and the outer rim of the lid has a couple of very minor shallow dents, but really hardly noticeable. Again if I had to be extremely critical if you look inside it has a slight foot impression to one of the feet, but this again is very minor. All the above sounds far worse than they actually are, but I do try to list my items as accurately as possible
Remarks: This really is a very pretty silver lidded bowl, ideal for storing items of jewellery, trinkets that would look impressive in any bedroom. Or it would make a lovely tea caddy or a sugar bowl and makes a very pretty display item
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
