Fish Slice Antique Georgian Silver. It is of an ovate shape with a lined pattern following the outline of the slice and a piereced decoration to the centre. It has a rounded hollow handle which has the lined pattern running down each side. It does have an engraved crest of a leopard (I think) with a bird’s clawed leg on the top of it. It is made from a good guage of silver and both the actual slice and the handle has clear hallmarks.
Assay Office: The actual slice LONDON, there is no Assay Office on the handle
Date: The actual slice 1790, there is no date letter on the handle but it does have the duty mark for George III
Makers Marks: The actual slice W.P (William Plummer) the handle ID (possibly John Touliet)
Dimensions: Just over 11 inches long in total and the slice is 2.75 inches wide at its widest point. It weighs 142g
Condition: It is in very good condition for its 221 years of age, with just some light surface scratching, which is only to be expected on a metal item, but this is minor and commensurate with age and use
Remarks: A very good antique Georgian silver fish slice and a must for any fish lover. It would also be a nice addition to any collection of Georgian silver
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
