Antique Georgian Silver Mustard Pot. It is of a good size and is of a pear shape, with fluted inverted lined graduated panels. It has a gilt interior so it does not require a liner. It has a gadrooned pattern around the rim and a pretty flower finial on top of the hinged lid, which also has the panelled pattern to it. It has a decorative leaf entwined question mark shaped handle. It has 4 very decorative lion masked bracket feet wich are very ornate. It does have fancy entwined initials, but these are very discrete and hardly noticeable. I am not actually sure how many letters there are, and the only letter I can make out is an “E”. It is made from a good guage of silver and has clear hallmarks, apart from the leopard Assay Office stamp which is a bit rubbed
Assay Office: LONDON
Date: 1825/1826
Makers Marks: IB (There are a number of makers with these initials, so I cannot confirm which one it is)
Dimensions: 3.25 inches tall to the top of the handle. The top diameter is 2.25 inches and the actual body is 3 inches in diameter at its widest middle point. It weigh 14g
Condition: It is in very good condition with just some light surface scratching, which is only to be expected on a metal item, but this is minor and commensurate with age and use
Remarks: A very good and pretty good size antique Georgian solid silver mustard pot, that would look impressive on any table, or a lovely addition to any collection
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
