The two large circular salts have an embossed flower decoration to the sides.  They have a gadrooned pattern to the fluted rims and they stand on 3 paw shell capped feet.  They do have a fancy cartouche which have been engraved with very fancy lettering, but these are quite worn and I am afraid that I cannot make them out, or indeed how many there are, although I think there are four.

The two salts have a pretty engraved scroll and leaf pattern to the top parts of the handles and each having a black cartouche and they have the Old English pattern to the back of the handles.  They have a circular cartouche at the top of the handles which are still blank. Both the salts and the spoons are made from a good guage of silver and all have clear hallmarks

Assay Office: The Salts LONDON the Spoons BIRMINGHAM

Date:      The Salts 1874/75 the Spoons 1894/95

Makers Marks: The Salts RH (Robert Harper) the Spoons J.G (Joseph Gloster)

Dimensions:  The Salts are 2.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches tall, the Spoons 3.25 inches long in total with the bowls being 1.75 inches in diameter.  The total weight of silver is 159g

Condition:   All the pieces are in very good condition apart from one of the salts has a couple of very very shallow dings to the underside of the base but these are very minor and the spoons have a little light surface scratching, but this is minor and commensurate with age and use

Remarks:    A very good pair of antique Victorian solid silver salts and spoons and because of their size they could be used for mustard or small quantities of saunces, such as cranberry, mint, tartare, horseraddish, apple sauce etc

Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used.  Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark.  I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
