Pair of Antique Silver Victorian Large Pedestal Salts

Pair of Antique Silver Victorian Large Pedestal Salts. They are of a compressed circular shape with a pretty applied embossed flower, leaf and scroll pattern on the overhanging rims. They have gilt interiors and short pedestal circular bases. Each have an engraved armorial of an armoured leg, one foot having a spur at the back, but on the other one the actual spur is missing. They are made from a good guage of silver and have clear hallmarks except for the makers marks which are a bit rubbed

Makers Marks: SHDC (Samuel Hayne & Dudley Carter)

Dimensions: 2.25 inches tall, the top diameter is 3.25 inches and the base 2.5 inches in diameter. They weigh a total of 231 gms

Condition: Overall they are in very good condition, with just a few minor dents around the curved middle points and some very light surface scratching, which is only to be expected on a metal item, but this is minor and commensurate with age and use. Also as stated above, the missing spur

Remarks: This really is a very good pair of large antique Victorian solid silver salts, and because of their size (which you cannot guage by the photograph), they could be used for serving sauces, such as horseraddish, mint, cranberry, tartare, apple etc. They could also be used as little sugar bowls. When not in use for condiments, they make lovely display items and could be used as candle holders or even put a little oasis in the base for small displays of fresh or dried flowers and use as little table or sidbeoard decorations

Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
