This is a good Antique Solid Silver Georgian Waiter. It has a gadrooned pattern around the top rim and it stands on 3 shell capped bracket feet. It is made from a good guage of silver and has clear hallmarks.

Assay Office: LONDON

Date: 1806/07

Makers Marks: J.E (John Emes – A predecessor silversmith of Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd) who are possibly the oldest manufacturing silversmith in the world

Dimensions: 6 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall. It weighs 190g

Condition: There is evidence of an erasure at the centre of the waiter, where an armorial or intials have been removed, and some light surface marks remain of whatever the engraving was. As a consequence, there is a slight indentation in the centre of the waiter, but this is minor. There are also two locations around the sides, adjacent to where the legs join, where minor indentations have been removed. There is one pin prick ding close to the edge in one place and the general surface has light scratching. On the underside, there are some score marks, where I suspect some previous reference marks have been removed. Having said all of the above, this sounds far worse than it actually is, but I do try to list my items as accurately as possible, and please also bear in mind that this waiter is over 200 years old.

Remarks: A good antique solid silver Georgian waiter, ideal for use for displaying business cards, a small decanter, serving glasses of port or shots etc. When not in use makes a lovely display item and a must for any collector of Georgian silver

Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
