Antique Silver Caddy Spoon

antique silver caddy spoon IMG 6010 300x167 Antique Silver Caddy SpoonAntique Silver Caddy Spoon.  It is very decorative and has an engraved pattern around  the  top  edge of the flat circular bowl.  The handle also has an engraved pattern to it  and it has a blank cartouche at the top.  It splits into two halfway down to where it joins the bowl and where this happens there is an embossed scroll pattern which looks like ram horns.  The back of the spoon is completely plain.  The guage is quite thin but the hallmarks are clear, except for the makers marks where the surrounding shape cuts into the letters a bit to the top and bottom of them. Assay Office:    BIRMINGHAM Date: 1812/1813 Makers Marks: IL (I think) so it could be John Lias

Dimensions:   2.75 inches long in total, the bowl 1.5 inches in diameter.  It weighs 6g

Condition:    There are a couple of shallow dents to the bowl and the edge is not quite a perfect circular shape but this is minor.   There is also a hairline split to the base of the bowl where it joins the embossed ram like pattern but you have to look extrememly closely through a magnifying glass to see it
Remarks:    An unusual antique Georgian 198 year old solid silver caddy spoon and a nice addition to any collection
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used.  Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark.  I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
