Silver Sugar Basket Swing Handled . This is a beautiful good sized basket which has a delicate pierced scroll design pattern to the top half of the basket interspersed with plain decorative solid shapes, a spreading pedestal foot which has a gadrooned pattern around the edge of the base. This gadrooned patternis us also around the top rim and running around the middle of the swing handle.
Assay Office: Sheffield
Date: 1912
Makers Marks: William Hutton & Sons Ltd
Dimensions: This stunning basket measures approximately 7.5 inches tall with the handle in the upright position and 4.5 inches tall when the handle is down. The top opening measures just under 3.75 inches in diameter. The weight of the silver weighs approximately 6.5 oz (195g) and the total weight including the heavy glass liner weighs 17.75 oz (503g).
Condition: In very good condition it comes complete with its blue glass liner which is good condition with no chips or cracks.
Remarks: This absolutely gorgeous basket needn’t be used just for sugar as it would make an elegant serving dish for such things as cream, small fruits, olives, chocolates, other sauces etc, and when not in use is an impressive display item that would grace any home.
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
