Silver Tea Set Hallmarks Sheffield 1897
This is a very good Antique Solid Silver Victorian 3 Piece Bachelors Tea set. It has a half reeded pattern to the bodies of all three pieces and on the hinged lid and underneath the spout of the teapot, which also has a dark wooden handle and finial. The 2 handled sugar bowl and the milk jug did originally have gilt interiors but this has now almost faded due to use and age. Each piece does have clear hallmarks and it is made from a good guage of silver

Dimensions: The Teapot 8.25 inches long from handle to spout, 3.25 inches wide and 5.25 inches tall and holds 18 fl oz (just under a pint). The Sugar Bowl just under 5 inches long from handle to handle, 2.5 inches wide and 3.25 inches tall. The Milk Jug 4 inches long from lip to handle, 2 inches wide and 2.75 inches tall. The total weight of all 3 pieces is 476g
Condition: Overall it is in very good condition, but the teapot does have one little pin prick ding in the plain part but this is minor. There is a little play in the handle where the wooden handle inserts into the silver frame. The pins that hold the handle in place are secure and this is perfectly normal wear for this age of teapot. It also has some very light surface scratching which is only to be expected on a useable metal item and commensurate with age and use, but again this is very minor. The milk jug is in very good condition apart from a little light circular mark to the inside of the base, but this is very minor. The sugar bowl is in very good condtion
Remarks: A very good antique Victorian bachelors solid silver 3 piece teaset and when not in use makes a lovely display item.
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
