Inkwells and Inkstands

inkwell This is an example of an Antique Sterling Silver Capstan Inkwell. The large circular base has 4 recesses around the rim for holding pens and then it has the raised circular lidded inkwell which has a blue glass liner. I would like to point out that the shiny areas in the photograph are reflections.

Assay Office: BIRMINGHAM

Date: 1909

Makers Marks: The makers marks are completely rubbed

Dimensions: 8 inches in diamter and 3.25 inches tall. It weighs 1351g (without the liner) but the base is weighted

Condition: There are numerous small dings and some slight impressions in the rim which is only to be expected on a useable metal item but certainly do not detract from this very impressive inkwell. It did have a covering to the base but this was a bit scruffy so my husband has put a red felt covering on top of this

Remarks: I cannot emphasise what a huge antique solid silver 100 year old inkwell this is, which would look very impressive on any desk. I do not think that you will find a bigger one!!!! so please do not miss it
