Antique Silver Inkstand with Silver Lidded Collar and Glass Inkwell. The stand is of a good size and of a good weight and is of a canoe shape with a gadrooned pattern around the sides in the inside and the underside of the base and the top rim. At each pointed end, there is an embossed floral pattern. The inkwell has a solid silver hinged lid and collar and again having the gadrooned pattern around the outer edge of the lid, with the glass body having a diamond and oval pattern to it. This inkwell sits in a fixed silver galleried holder which also has the gadrooned pattern around the top. It stands on 4 long slim reeded bracket feet. It is made from a good guage of silver and has clear hallmarks. In addition to the hallmarks there are also two other marks on the underside of one of the pointed ends, which are of a maltese cross shape and another mark of what I can best describe as a circle with 4 lines off it, but I have to admit that I cannot confirm what they relate to
Assay Office: LONDON
Date: 1900/01
Makers Marks: TB (Thomas Bradbury & Sons)
Dimensions: Just under 10 inches long, just under 4.25 inches wide and 3 inches tall including the inkwell. The stand is 1.75 inches tall. The actual inkwell is 2 inches tall, 2.25 inches long and 1.75 inches wide. The weight of the stand is 201g but I cannot weigh the silver hinged lid of the inkwell
Condition: It is in very good condition, with just some very light surface scratching, which is only to be expected on a metal item and is commensurate with age and use
Remarks: This is a lovely and very good size antique solid silver inkstand, that would look impressive on any desk
Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in “as new condition”.
